I have never taken a world-wide trip, but I have visited a very limited number of countries out of the United States. I would likely not have visited any of them if I weren’t a scientist, and traveling for meetings. I look forward to visiting more countries in the near future.

The farthest I’ve traveled was to southern Mexico to a city called Puebla. I went there when I was a high school senior because we were allowed to do a 3-week senior project and travel if we wanted. My friend’s family lived there, and another friend and I went to learn Spanish and experience the different culture. It was a really cool city with beautiful buildings and we met some really nice people there. There is a huge volcano that you can see from the city called Popocatepetl which was also super cool!

I have not traveled all the way around the world but I’d like to. So far I have traveled to Italy (for fun with a friend) and Canada (with family for fun) outside of the US. I am going to Ireland with my husband in a few weeks and Mexico around the holidays just to explore. I’m really excited.

Research meetings, where we share our data, have allowed me to travel quite a bit around the United States. I have been to San Francisco, CA, San Diego, CA, New Orleans, LA, Washington DC, Miami, FL, and Cleveland, OH all for conferences.

I have traveled a bit around the United States. I grew up on a farm in Texas, then lived in St. Louis, Missouri, for graduate school. Now I live in Boston for my work. When I was in college, I did study abroad in New Zealand, which was one of the best experiences of my entire life. If you can visit sometime, I’d highly recommend it.

Like Kellie, I have traveled all over for conferences and science meetings for my work. In fact, this is a secret perk of being a scientist – you get to go all over the country (and sometimes all over the world) to talk about your science projects with other people who are really, really excited about the same things. And if you’re very lucky, you get to go for free!

In my personal life, I have traveled to several countries around the world, mostly in Europe, but also Australia and South America. I have made friends all over the place, and love excuses to go see them.
