  There’s a lot of animals that are real that have “dragon” in their name! Creatures like the Komodo dragon or the bearded dragon are very much real, and scientists spend lots of time studying them. But in terms of the gigantic, flying dragons we read about in folklore…I’m afraid I haven’t seen any evidence to suggest they exist.
  
  But that’s the really great thing about being a scientist. I think every single one of us would happily change our minds if we saw some solid proof of dragons. We scientist-types never like to say “never”!

  Unfortunately, there are no “fire breathing” dragons, but there are various reptiles that were used to creature the movie image of a dragon. Here is an example of an animal with “dragon” in the name as Jonathan talked about.

  I agree with what everyone said here, but no one mentioned why we have dragon myths – dinosaur fossils!
  
  Humans discovered dinosaur fossils and used our wonderful imaginations to invent dragons. So, between the real dragons (Komodo, bearded…) and the fossil evidence of dinosaurs that inspired them, there’s a lot of cool science that we have left to investigate.
