Heck yeah, they are!
Well, the ones I have physically in my lab are the maxed-out versions of what anyone can buy. The ones I use for my large-scale research computing have many more processors and much higher memory than the computers most people buy. These computers allow us to analyze millions and billions of DNA base pairs.
