We can learn both basic science, and information relevant to human health by studying sex chromosomes. Especially, by studying the sex chromosomes, we can contribute to our understanding of sex-biased diseases, like auto-immune disorders, Fragile-X syndrome, breast cancer, and prostate cancer.
We can also understand how sex chromosomes came to be (they used to be an indistinguishable pair of autosomes, but now look and function very differently), and use this to make inferences across sex determination systems in other species.
