I study a group of viruses that have RNA as their genomic material (we have DNA, but we make RNA in our cells to express the genes in our DNA). This includes Hepatitis C virus, Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV for short), Dengue virus, Sindbis virus and West Nile virus. Most of them are carried by mosquitoes, but some of them are blood-borne viruses (Hepatitis C virus) and BVDV is a really bad virus for cattle.
